Estonian Union of Ice-skating (EUI) has deprived Natalia Zabiyako of grant as she decided to represent Russia’s national team, R-Sport reports. Zabiyako changed her partner, Russian sportsman Alexander Zaboev, with whom she had represented Estonia on the team tournament. Her current partner is Yuri Larionov.
The amount of the grant equals to 840 euros per half a year. Gunar Kuura, Secretary General of EUI, asked Estonian Ministry of Culture to deprive Zabiyako of the grant. Thus, the grant goes to Helery Hyalvin, the champion of Estonia in single skating tournament for women.
Zabiyako said that she had expected such decision, adding that this sum can hardly help both ends meet.
She also said that she was proposed to represent Russia after the World Championships 2014 in Saitama, Japan. Zabiyako and her partner Zaboev ranked 19 on these Championships.
