The annual February 24th Independence Day concert and formal reception will be held in Pärnu next year.
Toomas Sildam, the President's public relations adviser, told uudised.err.ee on Monday that the President has asked the Defense Forces to also hold the parade in the same city.
The concert and the President's formal reception will take place in Jõhvi in 2015, while the parade is likely to be held in neighboring Narva that year. In 2016 the festivities move back to the capital.
“We must highlight the importance of other regions. If needed, but in reality very often, we must officially show that Estonia does not end with Tallinn,” President Toomas Hendrik Ilves said in 2006. Since then, the official Independence Day events have more often been held in other regional centers - in Tartu in 2007, 2010 and 2012, and in Jõhvi in 2009.
