Estonia's per capita GDP was 62% of the EU average in 2009, making Estonia one of the bottom six and only ahead of Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Romania and Bulgaria.
The highest GDP was recorded in Luxembourg at 268% of the EU average, followed by Ireland (131%), Holland (130%), Austria (124%) and Sweden (120%).
France, Spain, Italy, Cyprus and Greece were near the EU average.
Another Eurostat survey based on 2008 figures, 26 of Latvian residents were living near the poverty line, behind Romania (23%) and Bulgaria (21%). The percentage in Lithuania, Greece and Spain was 20% and in Estonia it was 19%. EU average was 17%.
The list was topped by the Czech Republic (9%), Holland, Slovakkia, Slovenia, Sweden, Austria, Hungary and Denmark.
Eurostat considers that people who earn less than 60% of the country's average wages live near the poverty line.
