Estonian Prime Minister Andrus Ansip said yesterday that he would resign if a new coalition was formed, writes Äripäev.
Commenting the statement made by President Toomas Hendrik Ilves, Ansip said that if Reform Party and IRL reach an agreement with the People’s Union over setting up a new coalition, he would resign.
Ansip said that he agrees with the view of President Ilves that a Prime Minister who forms a new coalition should step down.
He added, however, that there are no laws nor current practice that request it.
“There is no guarantee that there will be a new coalition. Therefore, it could be that we will become a minority government. This means that there will not be effectively a new government and a new coalition,” said Ansip.
