A most unusual incident occurred in central Tallinn yesterday when a driver who was ignoring the indications of a traffic regulator drove 1.5 km with the regulator on the car’s bonnet.
Postimees writes that the regulator, Arvo Lindevest, claims that when he blocked the Ford Mustang driven by Kalev Rebane who wanted to make an illegal turn to the Vabaduse square, Rebane drove into him and he fell on the car’s bonnet.
In spite of the man on his car’s bonnet, Rebane did not stop and kept driving when he finally stopped in Telliskivi street in front of one building. He then ran into the house, but was soon detained by the police. Rebane has now been charged and could be fined or go to prison for three years.
Kalev Rebane who was driving the Ford Mustang is known as a firebrand protestor who is always organizing pickets.
Rebane claims that he went into panic when Lindevest jumped on his car’s bonnet and kept driving. “He is a big man and I was afraid that if I stop he could come and beat me up.”
Rebane said that he is accusing the traffic regulator of the incident. “I did nothing wrong. He jumped on the bonnet and refused to come down although I stopped several times and asked him to do so.”
The incident occurred at around 1 pm.
