Stenbock House - At the cabinet meeting, the government was given an overview of the Estonian Action Plan for Growth and Jobs for the years 2008-2011, in which nine main objectives for increasing the competitiveness of Estonia are set. The objectives stipulated in the plan are mainly aimed at increasing the skills of employees, the international competitiveness of companies, and the effect of research and development activities.
By the year 2011, the government aims to increase the proportion of expenses on research and development activities to 2% of GDP, productivity to 80% of the European Union average, and the proportion of people participating in lifelong learning should reach 12.5%.
After the cabinet meeting, the plan will be introduced to the committees of the Riigikogu, as well. According to the plan, the Action Plan for Growth and Jobs would be approved by the government in October.
