Mobile penetration rate in Estonia reaches 89 %
By the end of September, 89 percent of Estonians had a mobile phone, up from 85 percent at the end of June.
According to Estonian Telecom, the keywords for this year in mobile communications have been rapid growth of mobile communications sector, tough competition, discount packages and a rapid increase in the customer base.
Over three months, the customer base of market leader EMT increased by 26,600 people which means 47 percent market share.
According to experts, there is plenty of room on the Estonian mobile telephone market for newcomers. The fourth operator, Bravocom, is about to launch its services and is targeting 50,000 customers in the first few years of operations.
The business results of the existing three operators – EMT, Radiolinja and Tele2 – show clearly that there is plenty of room on the market.
The three operators are making an aggregate profit of EEK 1.5 billion a year. EMT’s sales amount to EEK 2.7 billion a year at a profit margin of 27 percent.
