Tallinn Mayor Edgar Savisaar said that restoration of the railway connection
between Estonian capital Tallinn and a resort city Haapsalu would make the local
economy more vivid, and create new working places, reports LETA the press service
of Tallinn City.
"Being Tallinn mayor and ex-Economy minister, I fully support the wish of residents of Laasnemaa county to restore railway connection on Tallinn-Haapsalu route. Thus, Laasnemaa region would get rid off the status of suburbs, and get out of the logistical trap," Savisaar noted.
"Every particular step in a framework of regional policy leads towards keeping population, can be seen as wise political decision," said Mayor of Tallinn.
Savisaar pointed out the necessity to include renovation of railway route from Tallinn to Haapsalu in a state plan of rural development, drafted by the Economy ministry of Estonia, and an investment plan financed from the structural funds of the EU.
