A patrol boat has detained a 19-year old Estonian citizen in Russian waters of the River Narva. The young man insisted he was trying to illegally cross the state border on a bet. This information was made public by a law enforcement representative.
During interrogations on the riverbank, the young man, a resident of the Estonian city of Narva, said he had struck a bet with friends for a sum of 100 euros that he would be able to swim across the river Narva and back, undetected.
Criminal proceedings have been initiated against the detained, had previously had a run in with the law for involvement in smuggling.
