Estonian foreign minister urmas Paet said that Estonia pays 20.77 million euros a year for membership in international organisations, LETA/Postimees Online reports.
Paet said in the Riigikogu on Wednesday that Estonia participates via different state institutions in the work of 400 international organisations. 301 of these ask a membership fee for which 20.77 million euros is needed this year. "The sum is in the same range next year," he said.
Paet said that the foreign ministry and other ministries are compiling a report on Estonia's membership in international organisations so that Estonia would belong only to the organisations and would pay membership fees to only those in which there is a point for the state. That may mean leaving some organisations, he said.
