The Saaremaa-Ventspils ferry line will re-open for this summer season on Friday, May 30.
Anu Lomp, CEO of SSC Ferries, told Eesti Päevaleht that the company is very optimistic about this year’s business because advance bookings are about double of what they were a year ago.
“The demand is up both among individual travelers and tourist groups, especially Estonian schools. There are also more tourist groups from Finland, Lithuania and Poland,“ said Lomp.
The ferry will be operating between the ports of Montu in Saaremaa, Estonia’s largest island, and Ventspils in Latvia from May 30 to August 31. The ferry will make eight trips a week until June 30 and then 30 trips a week. Departures from Montu will be on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and from Ventspils on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
One-way passenger tickets cost EEK 360 and round trips cost 580 kroons. Children aged between 6 and 17 pay 220 and 390 kroons. Children younger than 6 years will travel feel.
The trip is 63 km long and takes about four hours. Montu is 43 km from Kuressaare, the capital of Saaremaa.
Last year the ferry served 15,622 passengers and 2,870 cars.
