Wozniak lost 6-4, 6-4 to Kaia Kanepi
Wozniak, of Blainville, Que., lost 6-4, 6-4 to Kaia Kanepi of Estonia in the Tokyo match.
"It was a close match all the way through," said Wozniak. "Maybe if I'd not lost serve in the first game, it might have gone differently."
Wozniak had dropped just one set in winning three matches en route to the semifinals. She is ranked 38th in the world and was a surprise winner of a WTA event in Stanford, Calif., this summer, beating the likes of Serena Williams.
Kanepi will face Caroline Wozniaki of Denmark in the final. Wozniaki beat Jarmila Gajdosova of Slovakia 6-4, 6-3.
