PM Andrus Ansip's economic adviser Aare Järvan said state rather shouldn't pay bank's wrong decisions, if crisis similar to current one in US would happen in Estonia, writes aripaev.ee
Never say never ! But what touches our depositors then deposits up to EUR 20 000 are guaranteed, it's quite large amount. It's the first thing depositors should know. And whether country should pay for bank's wrong decisions I rather think it shouldn't. But history has shown all kinds if situations. There is no prepared answer," said Järvan.
He added that US crisis has certainly affected Europe, but it's too soon to tell where it all might go.
Considering the structures in our finance sector and theit situation I think we can be quite calm," noted Järvan.
He said the possible scenario in US is that likely some national measures are agreed and they'll be implemented when needed.
That the second package in US didn't go through, I think it's not finished yet. But I rather can't speculate here," said Järvan.
