Up to 40 Estonian companies took part in a contact and cooperation exchange and a presentation of the trade, economic, scientific, technical and investment potential of the bilateral cooperation between Estonia and Belarus. The event was held during the visit of the Belarusian businessmen to Estonia. The delegation was headed by director general of the Minsk branch of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Alexander Fedorchuk.
The delegation was composed of the representatives of the well-known Belarusian exporting companies :
the Mogilev Elevators Making Plant, OAO Gomelstroimaterialy, OAO "Vitebsk Carpets", Pinsk Artificial Leather Plant, Free Economic Zone Gomel-Raton, BelTA learnt from Consul General of Belarus to Tallinn Alexander Ostrovsky .
In the course of the visit, the Belarusian side held the meeting with Vice-Mayor of Tallinn Dmitry Borodich, director of the economic department of the city administration Mart Repnau and mayor of the city of Maardu Georgy Bystrov. The sides discussed practical steps on stirring up the Belarusian-Estonian cooperation in the economic area.
The Belarusian businessmen visited the Belarusian information and commerce centre, the cargo port of Novotallin, the enterprises Galvex, EOS and Maxima. An agreement was achieved on the return visit of the Estonian businessmen to Belarus in November 2008.
According to the Minsk branch of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the bilateral trade between Belarus and Estonia is quite diversified and is represented by practically all kinds of goods which Belarus usually exports. The range of the bilateral trade includes 400 types of goods. In 2007, the trade between the two countries was equal to $271 million. Belarus is primarily interested in well-developed Estonian transit infrastructure and ports.
