Swedish consulting group SWECO announced on Friday (28 March) that its Estonian subsidiary SWECO Projekt has received prestigious construction management contract in Tallinn, Estonia.
The contract, awarded by the Estonian ministry of defence and valued at EUR0.5m, covers the preparation work, including the foundation, for a monument to Estonia's War of Independence.
The monument, which has been in planning for 90 years, will be erected adjacent to Freedom Square in the centre of Tallinn.
The monument itself will be created by the Czech company Sans Souci International.
"It is a considerable challenge to take part in completing something that has been so widely discussed and had such a strong presence in the public consciousness for so long. We want to bring together the monument and Freedom Square in a visual and spatial whole and make this an integral urban space in the future," said Aare Uusalu, managing director of SWECO Projekt.
SWECO, headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden, is the Nordic region's leading provider of consulting services within engineering, environmental technology and architecture. The company has 5,300 employees in 10 countries, and reported sales of SEK4.6bn in 2007. SWECO is listed on the OMX Nordic Exchange in Stockholm.
