Estonia is commonly used as an example of a country that quickly shook off the yoke of socialism/communism and became a model of free-market success. Mr. Mikiver makes comparisons, asking why Estonia succeeded in its democracy, while Russia continues in its post-socialist woes.
One of the strongest arguments for Estonia’s success its flat tax, which has also brought prosperity to other Eastern and Central European countries. Why Western European nations like Germany and France, which continue to have economic woes, won’t adopt the same approach, is questioned.
