* According to the data of the Population Facts Department of the Ministry of the Interior, 1360 births were registered in May by the vital statistics offices of Estonia ; 692 of the babies were boys and 668 were girls. 30 pairs of twins were born in May (18 pairs of boys, 9 pairs of girls and 3 paternal twin pairs).
The most popular names given to boys in May were Karl / Carl, Aleksandr / Aleksander, Martin, Martti, Marcus / Markus and Oliver. The most common girl’s names were Mia / Miia, Laura, Lisete / Lisette, Kristiina / Kristina / Kristin, Sandra and Liis / Liisa / Liisi.
According to the statistics for May 2006 compiled by the Population Facts Department of the Ministry of the Interior, 510 births were registered in Tallinn, 156 in Tartumaa, 135 in Ida-Virumaa, 105 in Harjumaa, 91 in Pärnumaa, 46 in Viljandimaa, 66 in Lääne-Virumaa, 28 in Järvamaa, 30 in Saaremaa, 29 in Raplamaa, 44 in Valgamaa, 33 in Võrumaa, 25 in Läänemaa, 25 in Põlvamaa, 28 in Jõgevamaa and 9 in Hiiumaa. 3 babies were stillborn.
360 marriages took place in May, 30 of them contracted by ministers of religion. The vital statistics offices registered 270 divorces.
32 persons were granted new names by a directive of the Minister for Regional Affairs, 1 of whom changed their first name, 26 their surnames and 5 both first names and surnames.
1506 deaths were registered in the population register in May.
1181 births were registered in April 2006, 644 of them boys and 537 girls.
In May 2005, 1280 births were registered, 681 of them boys and 599 girls.
